After witnessing American Pharoah becoming the first horse in 37 years to win the Triple Crown, I became more fascinated with horse racing. With some of the top horses in the world like California Chrome, Frosted, and Keen Ice, who defeated American Pharoah at the 2015 Travers Stakes, participating at the 2016 Dubai World Cup, I finally decided to take a trip to Dubai to experience what my friends have been telling me about the city, and to check out the 2016 DWC.
Dubai is one of the most interesting places I have ever been because it is one of the biggest business hubs in the Middle East and one of the top tourist destinations in the world. The city also prides itself on being one of the most luxurious places in the world. In a little over 20 years, Dubai has been transformed from an underdeveloped desert city to one of the most modern cities, if not the most modern, in the world.
Dubai boasts all types of unique achievements; it is the home of the tallest man-made building and some of the most luxurious skyscrapers you will ever see.
It has the world’s largest shopping mall, which has an underwater aquarium. The Palm Island, which is an artificial island on the coast of Dubai that is shaped like a palm tree and the World Islands, which is a group of Islands shaped like the map of the world. Dubai’s innovation doesn’t stop with luxury skyscrapers and artificial islands; Dubai also has a ski where people can enjoy snowboarding and skiing or just take a break from the desert heat.
When I got there, the first place my friends recommended was a visit to the Dubai fountain. At first, I didn’t see understand all the fuss about seeing the fountain. Once you see it, you will understand why it was highly recommended.
The Dubai Fountain is the world’s biggest choreographed fountain system, and it sits on top of the Burj Khalifa Lake, which is at the center of the city’s downtown area. The fountain, which shoots water up to 500 feet in the air, is illuminated by over 6,000 lights and 25 projectors, and it is a sight to behold, especially at night.
Leaving the fountain, I decided to check out At the Top, Burj Khalifa. Now this isn’t something to do if you are scared of heights, since I’m not, I got to enjoy a 360-degree view of the beautiful city from the top of the world’s tallest tower. Getting to the top of the tower provides some excitement of its own because you get to ride in one of the fastest elevators in the world.
I then moved to visit the Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo at the Dubai Mall that I had heard so much about. The aquarium is a well-designed underwater tunnel where you get to see sea creatures swimming around you. They had sharks, stingrays, crocodiles, octopus, squids, and all sorts of sea-faring animals. You can also see professional divers diving into the aquarium and swim with the sharks to feed them.
Another fun experience I had during my visit to Dubai was at the Dubai Marina Cruise. During the cruise, you get to relax on a boat while it goes around the city’s coastline. If you’re up for it, you can rent jet skis and have a little adventure of your own cruising through the water or challenge your friends to a little race. Taking the cruise at night offers you a beautiful view of the city when all the buildings are lit, which makes the night cruise perfect for a romantic date.

The Dubai World Cup 2016 was probably the highlight of my vacation because I got to see some of the best horses in the world competing for a $10 million purse, making it the most expensive horse racing event in the world.
Even if you are not a horse racing fan, you have to appreciate the electric atmosphere at the World Cup. There was music, a light show, celebrities, women wearing some of the craziest hats you will ever see, and of course the main event, which was won by California Chrome, the horse that almost won the Triple Crown of racing two years ago. At the end of the day, the event was capped off by the most spectacular fireworks display I have ever seen.
